Stone Eagle Rosé

Tasting Notes

This wine is the second vintage of the Stone Eagle Rose. Sourced from the Stone Eagle Estate vineyard, this wine is 100% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard is meticulously maintained, including crop thinning and leaf plucking, and portions of the estate vineyard are farmed specifically for rose.

The fruit is hand harvested early to provide a balance of flavor and freshness, and the appropriate red fruit character for the final wine. Skin contact is limited to a few hours, and it is then carefully fermented and matured for about 6 months in a combination of 225 and 500 liter Acacia barrels.

The inviting light salmon-pink color of this wine is the first indication of a delicacy of flavor and structure. Subtle yet complicated in character, the nose is a lovely expression of the complexity of the wine. Soft red fruit notes frame a delicate nose of dried rose petals, orange blossom and very subtle potpourri spice, revealing its Cabernet Franc heritage. The palate is surprisingly rich and textured as it also reflects the fruit and spice notes of this wine. Nuances of berries, cherries, watermelon, sweet herbs and a hint of cinnamon show elegantly. The limited  skin contact as well as time in barrel imparted a slight amount of tannin to contribute to the elegant mouthfeel. This is a finesse wine throughout, transitioning into a delightful and lingering finish.
